"Disciples" Go Wild at Jersey Voices!

caananThe Canaan Wedding, or Disciples Gone Wild by The Porch Room's John P. Dowign is currently on stage as part of the Jersey Voices festival!

The Chatham Community Players will host its 17th annual Jersey Voices One-Act Festival with five performances between July 29 and August 6. This year’s production will include five original short plays written by New Jersey playwrights, as well as one original dance piece.

Performance dates are Friday and Saturday evenings, July 29, 30 and August 5 and 6. There is one Thursday performance on August 4. All performances begin at 8 p.m. at the Chatham Playhouse 23 North Passaic Ave Chatham, NJ

"The Caanan Wedding, or Disciples Gone Wild" is directed by Jon DeAngelis, who bares no relation to our own J. Michael DeAngelis - but The Porch Room has always believed in the power of coincidence!

"Deep Fried Everything" - July 15, 16, 22 & 23!

DFCDeep Fried Everything is our newest collection of original one-act plays. Life is a carnival and we’re gonna prove it; “Deep Fried Everything” deals with birth, life, death, and everything that falls in between, all in the time it takes you to cross the Midway.

“Deep Fried Everything” will be performed at Piscataway’s Circle Players, as a benefit for that organization, and runs two weekends: July 15, 16, 22, & 23.
Show times are 8 pm. Tickets are $10 for all seats.

The Porch Room’s last collection of one-acts, “Accidents Happen”, received publication by Samuel French following its performance at Circle Players in the summer of 2008.

"Deep Fried Everything" consists of three short plays and a creative sequence of liking segments called "Dark Ride".

Auditions for "Deep Fried Everything" - May 11 & 12th.

friedThe Porch Room is very excited to be working again with Circle Players Theater (our fourth collaboration!), with a new evening of one acts entitled Deep Fried Everything. The show contains three thematically connected plays, all set at various types of carnivals or amusement parks: Dunk by J. Michael DeAngelis & Pete Barry, Dupe by John P. Dowgin and Porch Rom fan favorite, Drop by Pete Barry & J. Michael DeAngelis. Performances will be this July at Circle.

Audition information is as follows:

Wednesday and Thursday, May 11 & 12, at 7:30 pm
Circle Players, 416 Victoria Ave, Piscataway, NJ.

Open auditions will be held for two of the evening’s pieces: “Dunk” and “Dupe”, as well as for a series of vingettes that link the plays together. {Note that the roles of Jackson and Sonya in "Dupe" and all roles in "Drop" have been cast.} Auditions will consist of readings from the scripts. The scripts will be available for perusal online now!

May 12, 2011: Another Pete Barry Book SigningShorter, Faster, Funnier!

Porch Room co-founder Pete Barry has been selected to be a part of this amazing new collection of hysterical short plays featuring some of the best comedy writers of our time! Pete's "Nine Point Eight Meters Per Second Per Second" (from the recently released "Accidents Happen") is reprinted in this collection alongside works from such luminaries as Christopher Durang, David Ives, Warren Leight, Theresa Rebeck and Mary Lousie Wilson.

Join the Porch Room at the Drama Book Shop on May 12 at 6pm for a gala release of "Shorter, Faster, Funnier" and a chance to mix and mingle with Pete and the other authors.

A Porch Room Halloween

We're thrilled to once again team up with Circle Players Theater, who we worked with on An Evening on the Porch and (the soon-to-be-published!) Accidents Happen. This time round, we're providing two all new one act plays, especially written for their annual Halloween fundraiser!

Both new pieces are written by our resident master of the macbre, Pete Barry. First up will be All in the Head, directed by John, an imagined look at the formative boarding school years of the adolescent Edgar Allan Poe. Featured in the cast are all three Porch Room staples - Michael, Pete and John, alongside Tyler J. Abelson. The second piece, Agoraphobia, directed by Pete, tells the story of two friends attempt to deal with the aftermath of one's encounter with a nightclub vampire. Michael and John star as the two friends, with fangtastic support from Faith Agnew Dowgin (Friday night only) and Katie McGillick (Saturday).

Along side The Porch Room shows, Circle Players' own Gordon Weiner will debut his The Seer on East Seventh.

Performances are Friday, 10/22 and Saturday, 10/23 at 8pm. Tickets are just $10 and include admission to both the show and the Halloween themed party that follows each night!

Pete Barry's CAMEO Takes Second Place in MoviePoet.com Contest!

Pete Barry, our resident writing machine, recently took home second prize in MoviePoet.com's August screenplay contest.

Pete's script is entitled Cameo - a thriller that pits an avant garde film maker against a Hitchcock obessed madman.

The complete script is available to read online to registered users of the Movie Poet site. A revised version will be available in our script library shortly.

Mark your calanders now! THE FRUPPUM ALABAMA CHAMBER OF COMMERCE by John P. Dowgin will be performed as part of The Living Series one act festival at the Piper Theater! The festival runs June 18-20 at the Piper Theater in Brooklyn, NY.

"Fruppum" has been a big hit for the Porch Room, having previously been played in as part of Burt Reynolds' Amazing Napalm Powered Oven and An Evening on the Porch. It was an official selection of the 2005 Samuel French Off Off Broadway Short Play Festival.

The Porch Room is proud to announce this exciting new section of our website - our online script library. When you visit our script library, you will be able to read great original works by members of The Porch Room for the stage and screen.

These scripts are provided online free of charge for your reading pleasure. If you are interested in performing one of stage works, we are happy to offer a royalty free license agreement for any stage work that is not currently represented by a publisher. For plays which are available commercially from a publisher, we provide a link to where you can purchase it.

Interested in optioning one of our screenplays? Links are provided to put you directly in touch with its author.

After two Porch Room performances among thirteen finalist short plays, the staff of Samuel French have chosen Drop for inclusion, along with five other shorts, in their 34th Annual Off-Off Broadway Festival Play Collection. The Porch Room is very excited about their first (of hopefully many more) published plays. Many thanks to our many Porch Room fans who came out to see the performances, and special thanks to the entire dedicated staff at Sam French who helped to make this year's festival an incredible experience for everyone involved.

The Samuel French 34th Annual Off Off Broadway Short Play Collection will be published in late 2009/early 2010. Details on how to purchase a copy will be printed here when we have more information.

THE PORCH ROOM ADVANCES TO THE FINALS OF THE SAM FRENCH FESTIVAL!shock

Thanks to the many fans and friends of the Porch Room who came out to see "Drop" as part of the Samuel French Off Off Broadway Short Play Festival last night in New York City.

We are thrilled to announce that of the six plays performed for festival judges last night, "Drop" has been selected to advance to the finals!! We were honored to be in the company of five excellent plays by very talented writers and humbled to have been given the chance to move on. As you can see in the photo we were quite shocked!

If you missed it last night, or want a second viewing, please come out and join on THIS SUNDAY at 4pm at the Mainstage Theater (In the Playwrights Horizons building). Tickets are still available via www.ticketcentral.com. The more fans we have cheering and laughing, the merrier!

NINE POINT EIGHT METERS COMES TO THE LEHIGH VALLEY

If you're in the Lehigh Valley and looking for a little taste of (Off-Off) Broadway, the Porch Room delivers! Pete Barry will perform Nine Point Eight Meters Per Second Per Second for the Insomniak Theater Company's One Act Festival. The performance will be held on Tuesday, July 14th at 7:00 PM at 60 S. Main Street in Nazareth, PA.

The shows include talkbacks with the cast and crews, including Porch Room members Pete Barry and J. Michael DeAngelis. Tickets are just $8.00.

Samuel French clearly knows genius when they see it. That's why they have selected not one, but TWO Porch Room plays, out of hundreds of entries, for this year's Samuel French Off-Off Broadway Festival. "Drop" by J. Michael DeAngelis and Pete Barry, and "Nine Point Eight Meters Per Second Per Second", also by Pete, will be performed at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater with thirty-eight other short plays. The winner of the competition will be contracted for publication by Sam French. We'll keep you updated as to dates of performances, so you can tell your children that you were there when the Porch Room was finally distributed in print throughout the world, thereby causing the irreversible corrosion of civil society!
