Come join J. Michael DeAngelis and Pete Barry for the official release of their play Drop by Samuel French at The Drama Book Shop at 250 West 40 Street in New York City, on February 22nd! John Dowgin will also be on hand to join the authors in a short reading as they reprise their roles from their award-winning production from last summer.
The world’s oldest and largest publisher and licensor of plays, Samuel French Inc., will release “Off Off Broadway Festival Plays, 34th Series” a collection of winning plays from its acclaimed “2009 Samuel French Off Off Broadway Short Play Festival” including "Drop". The launch celebration will include play readings and appearances by many of the winning authors who will be on hand to sign collection copies after the reading. Wine and Cheese party to follow.

These scripts are provided online free of charge for your reading pleasure. If you are interested in performing one of stage works, we are happy to offer a royalty free license agreement for any stage work that is not currently represented by a publisher. For plays which are available commercially from a publisher, we provide a link to where you can purchase it.

The New Jersey Association of Community Theaters (NJACT) has named The Porch Room's 2008 evening of original short plays, Accidents Happen, the OUTSTANDING PRODUCTION OF AN ORIGINAL PLAY at the 2009 Perry Awards!

UPDATE: Tales from the Porch: Accidents Happen took home the Perry Award for Outstanding Original Production of the Play. The award was given to Circle Players as producers, writer-directors Pete Barry, J. Michael DeAngelis, John Dowgin and Serena Halley and to Cathy Zouves-Wrobel, director of "taskkill human.exe." Also receiving recognition was Porch Room co-founder John Dowgin for his directorial work on 12 Angry Men, which garnered several nominations for himself and Circle Players.

After two Porch Room performances among thirteen finalist short plays, the staff of Samuel French have chosen Drop for inclusion, along with five other shorts, in their 34th Annual Off-Off Broadway Festival Play Collection. The Porch Room is very excited about their first (of hopefully many more) published plays. Many thanks to our many Porch Room fans who came out to see the performances, and special thanks to the entire dedicated staff at Sam French who helped to make this year's festival an incredible experience for everyone involved.
The Samuel French 34th Annual Off Off Broadway Short Play Collection will be published in late 2009/early 2010. Details on how to purchase a copy will be printed here when we have more information.

Thanks to the many fans and friends of the Porch Room who came out to see "Drop" as part of the Samuel French Off Off Broadway Short Play Festival last night in New York City.
We are thrilled to announce that of the six plays performed for festival judges last night, "Drop" has been selected to advance to the finals!! We were honored to be in the company of five excellent plays by very talented writers and humbled to have been given the chance to move on. As you can see in the photo we were quite shocked!
If you missed it last night, or want a second viewing, please come out and join on THIS SUNDAY at 4pm at the Mainstage Theater (In the Playwrights Horizons building). Tickets are still available via www.ticketcentral.com. The more fans we have cheering and laughing, the merrier!

Samuel French clearly knows
genius when they see it. That's why they have selected not one, but TWO
Porch Room plays, out of hundreds of entries, for this year's Samuel French
Off-Off Broadway Festival. "Drop" by J. Michael DeAngelis
and Pete Barry, and "Nine Point Eight Meters Per Second Per Second",
also by Pete, will be performed at the Peter Jay Sharp Theater with thirty-eight
other short plays. The winner of the competition will be contracted for
publication by Sam French. We'll keep you updated as to dates of performances,
so you can tell your children that you were there when the Porch Room was
finally distributed in print throughout the world, thereby causing the irreversible
corrosion of civil society!
